Jamshedpur, Sept. 13: Kolhan University has issued an order to all its colleges to ensure that the faculty members take regular online classes till the lockdown September 30. Those skipping classes will be marked absent on that day. Moreover, action will be taken against them.

“We have been getting regular complaints from the students and parents that classes are not being taken regularly. Concerned over the situation, we have issued orders to the colleges asking them to keep a track on professors taking classes on time and those skipping to be marked absent for the entire day,” said an official of Kolhan University.

The official revealed that the university has received several written complaints from students and from their union that half their classes were not being held on account of perpetually absent teachers.

“We are not trying to make anything unpleasant for anybody but just trying to sort out the issue. We will work in cooperation with college principals,” said the official.

Meanwhile, a student of Jamshedpur Cooperative College, who wished not to be quoted, said that the need of the hour is to keep oneself updated. Amidst ongoing lockdown, so many options available in the era of the internet and online courses, Kolhan University must use the platform to help students.

Kolhan University Gangadhar Panda agreed that there was an urgent need to normalise academic sessions so that students are not forced to leave for metro cities for higher studies. The principals have been asked to promote the Ministry of Human Resource Development initiative that offers free online courses to students, making it easier for them to get job placements after completing their graduation.

Meanwhile, the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown has paved the way for the educational institutions to come up with online classes. Drawing inspiration from the new normal, Kolhan University is also offering courses on virtual platforms.

The Kolhan University was established on August 13, 2009 with 14 Constituent Colleges and 12 Affiliated Colleges in geographical jurisdiction of East  Singhbhum,  West Singhbhum  and Seraikela Kharswan District with more than 80,000 students strength.
