Jamshedpur, July 25 : Kolhan University has started taking steps to ease education as per Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

In a major move, the examination board has sent an approval to the university syndicate. Under this students appearing for the 50 marks ability enhancement compulsory course that comprises of MIL communication in the first semester; environmental science in the second semester and skill enhancement course in the third and fourth semester will now answer their papers in one and a half hours instead of three hours. Moreover, examination board has already decided that these papers will have objective type questions only.

Prior to this these papers required students to answer both objective and subjective questions for three hours which the examination board felt was unnecessary. CBCS is a system where the students have a choice to choose from the prescribed courses, which are referred as core, ability enhancement and generic elective courses and they can learn at their own pace and the entire assessment is graded-based on a credit system.

In the undergraduate level, it has been decided that honours students across arts, science and commerce will have to study papers like MIL, computer science, personality development, communicative English, environmental studies, basic math economics and history of Jharkhand.

” We want to ease studies for the student. We have senta proposal to the syndicate which will notify it soon. So all these papers in the first four semesters will have students answer in half time,” said P.K. Pani, examination controller of Kolhan University.

After its first semester exams in February-March, the varsity officials have said that the second semester examination sometime in September. Examination forms will be filled up in August. As this is the first year of the semester system, officials have admitted delays in managing the entire system.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the examination board held on Tuesday at the university headquarters in Chaibasa decided to announce results of 11 Ph.D candidates.
The Kolhan University was established on August 13, 2009 with 14 Constituent Colleges and 14 Affiliated Colleges in geographical jurisdiction of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and SeraikelaKharswan District with more than 80,000 students strength.

The university is in the area of tribal region. Apart from conventional courses in UG and PG level including medical/ dental/ engineering/ law/ management/ education following vocational courses are running under the university.
