Jamshedpur, Oct.4 : Following mass leave of teachers agitating for their long pending demands, the second semester exam of Kolhan University was postponed.

The second semester exam of Kolhan University will now be held on October 12.The Kolhan University notified about the change late in the evening yesterday, but students who weren’t aware came to their respective centres but had to return.

The UG second semester exam started from yesterday and was supposed to get over on October 31. The exams will be held under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

CBCS is a system where the students have a choice to choose from the prescribed courses, which are referred as core, ability enhancement and generic elective courses and they can learn at their own pace and the entire assessment is graded-based on a credit system.

In the undergraduate level, it has been decided that honours students across arts, science and commerce will have to study papers like MIL, computer science, personality development, communicative English, environmental studies, basic math economics and history of Jharkhand.

The scheduled papers today were history, philosophy, Hindi English, Bengali Odia, Urdu Sanskrit, Maithil and tribal languages. The exam time was 8:30 am to 11:30 am.

The teachers across the universities of the state have been demading implementation of seventh pay commission, promotion under the career advancement scheme (CAS) and others.

About 3000 college teachers in constituent colleges across the state have planned a mass leave to demand the implementation of seventh pay commission payscale and also the centres proposal to scrap University Grants Commission (UGC), the apex higher education regulator and to replace it with a higher education commission.

The autonomous body UGC set up in 1956 is to be replaced with Higher Education Commission of India that college teachers in Jharkhand have disapproved of.

The Kolhan University was established on August 13, 2009 with 14 Constituent Colleges and 14 Affiliated Colleges in geographical jurisdiction of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and SeraikelaKharswan District with more than 80,000 students strength.

The university is in the area of tribal region. Apart from conventional courses in UG and PG level including medical/ dental/ engineering/ law/ management/ education following vocational courses are running under the university.
