Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has decided to embark the demolition drive against the unauthorised use of parking into commercial purpose in the same localities where the civic body had carried out the drive two years ago.

The decision to this effect was taken by JNAC at a meeting held today following a survey of high-rise buildings in localities, including Sakchi, Baradwari, Sonari and posh Bistupur .

The special officer of JNAC, R.N. Dwivedi said that the civic body had in March, 2011 started a drive against those building owners who had allotted shops and office-premises to parties in the parking by violating the building norms.
The kind of shops which would face the eviction axe included vegetable shops, fruit shops, tea stalls, snacks corner, hair-cutting salon and furniture shops.

“We would be carrying out similar drive in different lanes and roads inside the Sakchi market regularly as part of our objective to decongest roads in the market area,” said the official.

Similar drives would be carried out on the road opposite Basant Talkies, Tin Shed Market and on Kalimati Road. This drive will make a way for smooth flow of traffic. Acting on frequent complaints made by residents the step is being taken.

“We cannot comprise with the safety of market place. Moreover , people lso find it inconvenience to move into the market freely with the passages getting choked due to the make-shift shops,” said the official.

According to Kumar, they would ensure that the market place is cleared of any type of encroachments including the manner in which the shopkeepers had extended their shops.

Encroachments in the city are omnipresent and thriving, much to the discomfort of the ordinary citizen. The city is known for the encroachments which blot the urban landscape.
