Jamshedpur : Jharpex, the second state level philately exhibition organised by India Post at Tulsi Bhawan not only gave you an opportunity to see a collection of stamps of India across various periods of time but also some knowledge like the difference between definitive and commemorative stamnps. The exhibition started today will continue till March 13.

On Wednesday, the postal department also released a special cover on Zimmedaar Nagrik, zimmedaar shahar, the Jusco citizens’ awareness campaign.

A. S. Prasad, chief postmaster general, Jharkhand circle inaugurated the three-day Philately exhibition along with K.K. Sinha, postmaster general, Jharkhand; S.K. Dwivedi, sirector, postal services, Jharkhand and others. Former Tata Steel director, J.J. Irani was also present on the occasion.

The unique feature of the exhibition was a chance to create your own stamps. The My Stamp initiative is where you give your passport size photo, an id proof and get your own postal stamp worth Rs 5 each. About 10 visitors had already had their postal stamps in the day. A sheet consists of 12 stamps which are usable.

“The occasion has been very special. This has been the attraction and also we have released two special covers in the day. One to pay homage to Tata Steel founder J.N. Tata and the other when Mahatma Gandhi visited Jamshedpur in August 1925,” said R.D, Sharma, senior post master, Bistupur Post Office, Jamshedpur.

The special covers released today was one of J.N. Tata priced at Rs 25 and the other with a photo of the time when Mahatma Gandhi, C.R. Das and C.F. Andrews visited the Tata Steel works. The latter special cover is priced at Rs 300. In fact 60 special covers have already been sold out of just 200 printed for the occasion.

“These rare special covers will not be available. These are commemorative and will never be printed again making it very special. Also this year is a very special occasion as Bistupur post office has completed 90 years. We have inaugurated a new post office at Pardih today,” said Sharma.
