Jamshedpur, Dec. 23: Jubilation broke out on Monday in the city as the Mahagathbadhan’s (Congress, JMM and others) took early lead in Assembly polls. Enthusiastic party cadres burst crackers and distributed sweets anticipating ‘victory’ even before the final results were announced. Sweets were distributed at strong room near Jamshedpur Co-operative College. The party supporters were keener to know the results of Jamshedpur East Assembly seat where sitting CM Raghubar Das and rebel leader Saryu Roy were contesting.
Though the mood at BJP’s camp near the strong room at Jamshedpur Co-operative College was upbeat soon after counting started at 8 am but as the day move ahead the supporters of Congress and JMM took centre stage. Supporters smeared with gulal displayed V-signs as the counting process started.
“We are happy that the party is winning the crucial election. Every party worker had put in hard efforts and their work deserves to be lauded. Hemant Soren’s vision of development favoured us, voters has shown faith in his leadership,” said a JMM worker.
Men and women wearing party caps carrying flags and posters of raised slogans in favour of their leaders. JMM office at Kadma was also bustling with activity since the counting exercise commenced in the morning. After the results were announced party workers came out on the roads and burst crackers and distributed sweets.
Similar scenes were witnessed at Jugsalai, Burmamines, Sakchi, Bistupur and Sidhgora with party workers distributing sweets and bursting crackers. “Congress’ dream to return to power for a record consecutive fourth term was dashed to the ground.,” said a leader.
State Congress secretary and senior leader SRA Rizwi Chabban said that it is the defeat of arrogance. He said that fighting as one disciplined team was critical to ensure electoral win. He noted that it is a final call and infighting has to end to achieve the goal. “It is important to work with utmost commitment to live up to the expectation of the people of the State. It is time party people must wake up,” he noted lamenting over current state of affairs.
Leaders and supporters of Congress and JVM too had constructed makeshifts tents, however, it was the tent of JMM that was brimming with joy with every passing rounds. After the announcements of every round results, it was the JMM camp of supporters that rejoiced in jubilation.
“From the very first day we were confident of our victory and we feel relieved to see our candidate heading towards an easy win. We are happy that the party has regained the Jamshedpur parliamentary seat. Every party worker had toiled and they deserve to be lauded. Modi’s charismatic personality and his vision of development too favoured our candidate, voters has shown faith in his leadership,” said Raj Kumar Srivastava, president, district BJP.
On the other hand silence prevailed at BJP after the defeat. Party leaders were sad with the results.
“ I cannot comment as what led to our defeat. Our senior leaders will sit and review the performance of the party in the elections,” said a district leader of BJP.
