Jamshedpur, February 18: State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy had a close shave on Monday as his SUV, a Toyota Fortuner, rammed into one of the vehicles escorting him from Jamshedpur to Ranchi.
The mishap occurred near Tunju under Bundu police station area. No injury was caused to anyone, sources said.
Sources said Roy’s vehicle knocked the escort car leading it from behind when its driver applied brakes to avoid hitting a stray animal on the highway. Both vehicles were damaged in the incident. Roy was accompanied by security personnel. He later left for Jamshedpur in another vehicle.
Rajkumar Yadav, officer in-charge of Bundu PS, said, “The mishap occurred when the escort vehicle stopped all of a sudden, giving no time to the vehicles following it to stop at safe distance. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.”
Roy was coming to Jamshedpur to inaugurate the three-day street food festival at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur.
