Hemant, Vashu, Preston enter pre quarter final of Beldih Club National Ranking tournament

Jamshedpur, Nov. 13: 18-year-old Varun Raisurana of Jamshedpur went down against Bengal’s Rishabh Shah at the opening round of the Men’s Open Singles event at the ongoing Beldih Club AITA Men’s National Ranking 50K Tennis Championship 2017, been held at Beldih Club as well as United Club in Jamshedpur.

In the main draw event of Men’s Open Singles which began on Monday, November 13, qualifier Varun Raisurana failed to make the supporters happy as he goes down against a stronger Rishabh Shah in 55 minutes by a clean 2-6, 2-6.

Expectation were high from the Jamshedpur based boy after he made it to the main draw by winning a marathon match during the qualifiers played on November 12. But the debutant faltered in his debut at the National Ranking charts going down in straight sets.

Other Jharkhand lads, Kanhaiya Kumar, Vishwajeet Anand and Vivek Sinha were also beaten in straight sets.

8th seed Vashu Gupta of Uttar Pradesh beat Vishwajeet Anand by 6-0, 6-0, Ayush Mintri of Punjab defeated Kanhaiya Kumar by 6-2, 6-0 while Roshan Kumar of Bihar beat Vivek Sinha by 6-3, 6-1. It meant that Jharkhand’s campaign in the men’s single event comes to an end with the successive defeat.

In other matches, 7th seed in the main draw of Men’s Open Singles, Hemant Kumar of Delhi entered the pre quarter final with an ease; drubbing Md Arham Siddiqui by a margin of 6-0,6-0.

Top 6 seeds have a bye in the first round and they will play their pre quarter final matches on Tuesday, November 14.

In some of the other matches during the day Preston Vaz of Maharashtra beat Kishan Kumar of Bihar 6-1, 6-0, Arpit Sharma of Rajasthan beat Aakash Patil of Chhattisgarh 6-2, 6-0. Umar Shaikh of Andhra Pradesh defeated Sarthak Deoras of Chhattisgarh 7-6(4), 6-2, Umang Jhunjhunwala of Gujarat beat Abhinav Kumar of Bihar 6-0, 6-0 and Neeraj Choudhary of West Bengal beat Devasish Sood of Madhya Pradesh 6-0,6-1.
