Jamshedpur, April 13 : Police on Friday arrested a 19-year-old youth for killing a five-year-old girl whose body was found lying in a vacant residential quarters near Das Bustee under Burmamines police station area on April 4 night.The arrested youth was identified as Vikram Das, a resident of the same locality.
Vikram is maternal cousin of the victim. He murdered her after making an abortive bid of rape at the vacant quarter. Senior SP, AnoopBirthray said that while arresting the culprit they recovered a pair of silver bangles that the victim had put on, a `Tabeez’ which the victim had put on her neck and a blood-stained knife used in the murder at the instance of the accused.
” It was one of the most complicated cases we have solved. The police team which was probing finally nabbed the assailant,” said Birthray while addressing a press conference.
He said initially the police team had difficulties as all the residents of that urban slum, including theassailant were demanding the arrest of the culprit involved in the crime.
The police team head by deputy superintendent of police (City) Anudeep Singh interrogated about 50 persons, including the assailant Vikram separately. He said all those interrogated claimed their innocence in the case.
“The accused was grilled intensely . The police team got a couple of such witnesses who had seen Vikram coming out of the vacant residence around the time the child was found murdered on April 4 night.
Then only Vikram was picked up again and probed. He confessed that he wanted to rape the child, but as it could not happen he murdered her by slitting her throat with a knife,” said Birthray. He said Vikram killed the child as he got afraid that she would tell her parents about the abortive bid of rape.
