Jamshedpur, Sept. 8: City SP Prabhat Kumar along with officials of the district administration, Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samity( JDPKS), inspected the river ghats, where immersion would take place during festive season. The officials inspected major ghats to check the cleanliness.
The team directed the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) and Jusco to take up the cleanliness of the ghats with a joint effort. Since JNAC runs out on proper resources, Jusco would lend the excavators and trucks on the river ghats for cleanliness soon.
“Although the river ghats are not so unclean may be due to the recent rains, we have asked JNAC and Jusco to take up the responsibility as soon as possible. Jusco has agreed to provide the resources in about seven ghats of the city. The others would be taken up by the concerned notified area committees for the cleanliness work,” said an official.
The administration has also asked the cattle shed owners to remove themselves from the bank of the river, which has made the area unclean. The cattle shed owners have been given a time period of 24 hours to remove them. The concerned police station incharge in the respective areas have been asked to do their jobs if the cattle shed owners do not move to some other place.
The district administration has also directed barricading of the ghats which have got steep slopes pathways to the river. The JNAC has been directed to remove the garbages to a dumping area to provide devotees a clean environment. Jusco has been told to provide electricity in the river ghats.
According to those in the Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samity, the worst ghat was the Subernarekha ghat with garbages dumped by the side of the river. The best one has been Domuhani river ghat in Sonari which has not been affected so much.
“The administration should also ensure proper lighting facilities, life saving divers along the ghats. Thousands of devotees would participate.
The administration should deploy police personnel and emergency services like ambulance at riverbanks,” noted the senior member.
“The administration has been strict on the directives. The river ghats must be clean as it is related to pujas. Therefore the JNAC and Jusco have been asked to take up the matter as soon as possible,” said a functionary of Jamshedpur Durga Puja KendriyaSamity.
