Jamshedpur, May 19: With fourth phase of lockdown enforced, East Singhbhum district administration has asked all essential shops, except medical stores, to down shutters in the city after 7 pm.
Moreover, with fresh cases of Covid-19 being reported, East Singhbhum district administration has decided for strict imposition of lockdown provision.
The district has witnessed rise in Covid-19 positive cases in the last few days.
Jamshedpur city SP Subhash Chandra Jatt said that directive has been issued to all police stations and also the patrolling personnel on jeeps and bikes to ensure that all essential shops like grocery stores, vegetable and fruit shops are closed down after 7 pm.
Only medical stores, dispensaries and health centres will be allowed to remain open after 7 pm in view of the Union home ministry directive for night curfew between 7 pm and 7 am.
Significantly, during third phase of lockdown, grocery, fruit, milk and vegetable shops remained open in the city well past 7 pm as they came under essential commodities.
“The directive of Union home ministry clearly underlines that only in exceptional emergencies cases can people be allowed on roads between 7 pm and 7 am and hence we have decided to enforce closure of other kinds of shops after 7 pm,’ added city SP.
Meanwhile, East Singhbhum district administration has made it clear that companies operating in city areas will not be allowed to open.
“In effect, it means citizens cannot come out of their homes and move around in public places unless they have an emergency to explain. We had been requesting and advising people to stay indoors.
But for the first time in years, the entire city is witnessing a lockdown and authorities can prosecute those found violating the order,” said an official.
City police have deployed a large force of officers at earmarked crossings to check the movement of vehicles. Multiple teams are patrolling the city to ensure people stay indoors.
The administration has issued a lockdown notice, barring essential and emergency services. “Do not step out of home unless absolutely necessary, otherwise it will not be possible to contain the spread of the contagious virus. Else, be prepared to face the police,” an officer said.
Food items and medicines are among services exempt from the lockdown following the outbreak of the virus.
