Jamshedpur, Oct. 12: The city police have asked the residents to include at police Whatsapp number (7091091825) in in all the Whatapp groups of puja committees and other news groups operating in the city. People can inform police on the number if they feel any attempt was being made to spread communal harmony through any acts.

“We have requested the puja committees and other news groups to include our whatsapp number keeping a watch on messages floating on groups active in the district. We have taken this initiative for a peaceful Durga puja. Messages of communal hatred and those effecting harmony will not be tolerated,” said SSP Anoop Birtharay.

Accoding to him, besides the Whatsapp, police are also keeping tab on messages on twitter, facebook and other social media sites.

As part of its effort to make Durga Puja festival incident free and peaceful, the district administration has asked people to carry identity card while they go out of home for pandal-hopping.

The East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Amit Kumar organised a meeting of senior police and administrative officers, where he stressed upon stern measures against the trouble mongers besides drawing an action plan for security arrangement across the city.

Apart from strategic deployment of police force, setting up of control rooms and deputation of magistrates, it was decided to check the I-card of people visiting pandals. Moreover, it was discussed as to how to keep the festivity during the grand Puja without any major incidents.

” We have put the security personnel on alert. We have put the intelligence-gathering mechanism on the alert for the Durga Puja here. If anyone is found indulged in creating law and order situation in or around a puja pandal or on the street, we will check the person concerned is a bona fide citizen. We will, therefore, check the I-card of the person concerned. If he is found to be suspected we will take action against him,” said an official.

Notably, in the steel city over 300 Pujas are being organised, several of them huge crowd-pullers. As maintaining law an order and streamlining the vehicular traffic during the Puja happen to be a big task for the administration, it will depute magistrates across the steel city for monitoring the security at the Puja pandals and also security of people on the important thoroughfares.
