Jamshedpur, Sept 30: A delegation of Jamshedpur’s Central Durga Puja Committee (CDPC) met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and urged him to issue directives in view of the forthcoming Durgotsav celebrations. The festivities associated with Durga Puja is highly pronounced in Jharkhand apart from West Bengal where this annual event is eagerly looked forward to by people across all age, cultural and religious barriers. In the city alone, more than 350 Durga Puja pandals dot the festive horizon.

The Chief Minister assured the CDPC delegation that the state government wouild shortly release the guidelines. He however asked the delegates that in view of the prevailing COVID pandemic, the festivities should be organized in a low key manner.

He said that the state government would take into account all angles in a detailed manner before issuing directives. The delegation urged the Chief Minister to issue the guidelines well on time so that devotees were not left in the lurch about the celebratory norms.

Jamshedpur CDPC president Chandra Nath Banerjee and secretary Arun Singh in a joint press statement mentioned that the pandemic situation left people pondering on how the Durga Puja festivities will be organized and the various government protocols that would be attached.  Organizing Durga Puja reflects the religious sentiments of the people. People wish to celebrate the occasion in any joyous manner. The various puja committees have to get on with organization work but are being held up in the absence of government and administrative guidelines. Durga Puja without the usual bhog, Dhak beats and gaiety holds no meaning. Governments in other states have already issued Durga Puja guidelines and it is the expectation of the people of Jharkhand that the state government will issue similar guidelines regarding observation of Durgotsav. The press release mentioned that the CDPC delegation had expressed to the Chief Minister that the people of Jamshedpur would remain ever obliged to the state government with the issuance of ‘benevolent’ protocols to observe the biggest Hindu festival.

It may be mentioned here that the Jamshedpur CDPC has been ensuring peaceful Durgotsav celebrations in the city for years maintaining perfect coordination between the various Durga Puja committees and the administration that has led to prevalence of peace.
