Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum has performed better than its neighbours- West Singhbhum and Seraikela- Kharswan in the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) matric exam, the result of which was declared on Tuesday afternoon.

In Kolhan, East Singhbhum scored pass percentage of 68.23 per cent in Seraikela Kharswan the pass per centage is 57.55 per cent and West Singhbhum with 56.05 per cent.

Hazaribagh district had the highest pass percentage of 74.75%, followed by Ranchi (72.93%) and East Singhbhum (68.23%). Latehar witnessed the lowest pass percentage with 38.19%, followed by Garhwa (40.21%) and Chatra (42.59%).

East Singhbhum district education officer (DEO) R.K.P. Singh said they are satisfied with over all performance considering the number of teachers available in high schools.

“We have to be satisfied with the results because the way my students have performed despite less number of teachers. There are only 11.5 per cent teachers out of the total sanctioned post in the district. In spite of that we are placed third among all the 24 districts. I am happy. Due to lack of teachers we were not able to conduct remedial classes for every weak student. However, we would study the results. There is always scope for improvement. We will work to improve our performance,” said Singh.

“In fact we had taken efforts of remedial classes and have also asked professionals to render their service for students and yet this is the scenario which I think is great. We cannot expect a better result without regular teachers. Also there is not only science that is the concern. There are other subjects as well. Hopefully the dearth of teachers will get addressed within a couple of months,” said another official of the education department.

An official of Seraikela-Kharswan said that the district has been performing better in the last two years with the available resources. “We have improved our performance over the years. Last year it was in the 19th position and this time its 13th. We will call a meeting and review performance for better results in future,” he said.

Of the 4,28,379 students who took the exam at 954 centres across the state, only 2,54,830 have passed, the Jharkhand Academic Council, which declared the JAC 10th result, said.

JAC declared class 12 science and commerce stream results on June 7 in which 48.34% science students and 67.49% commerce students cleared the exam. The board is yet to announce Class 12 Arts stream results.
