Jamshedpur: In view of the Independence Day, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has geared up security measures in the Chakradharpur.
The GRP in association with Railway Protection Force ( RPF) and district police have decided to carry out an intensified track-checking, surveillance of passengers with suspicious features and checking of luggage with scanners.
Sniffer dogs has pressed in for beefing security of passengers and as well as the railway property.
Speaking about the steps being taken to ensure proper security, an official said that they have planned special security measures prior to the Independence Day because the intelligence input has suggested that Maoist violence may erupt at a railway station in the naxal-infested Ghatshila-Mahoharpur section in the Chakradharpur railway division or any act of sabotage at the railway track in this section during the celebration.
“We are taking every step to ensure that the Independence Day is free from any violence.
Violence by naxals on or before the I-Day is probable at the Chakradharpur railway division, especially in Ghatshila-Manoharpur section,” he noted. “We have decided to keep a close co-ordination with the district police for keeping the train movement incident free during the week,” said he added.
He said railway police would also increase surveillance at smaller stations like Kandra, Chandil, Manoharpur, Ghatshila and Chakulia, and at the outer signals of major stations where trains are stopped briefly at night. He said though railway police personnel travel in express train, they focus on reserved compartments only.
Another senior official noted: “We are keeping a strict vigil in the areas falling under railways. We have increased security on all the railway stations. Additional security personnel have been deployed on the trains moving on Tatanagar-Howrah route”. He said that the additional security personnel have been deployed at strategic locations besides special focus is at the stations.
