Jamshedpur : Angered over attack on doctors of GSVM Medical College at Kanpur, the medical fraternity in city led by Indian Medical Association, ( IMA) today met DC at district headquarters.
Sporting black badge at all OPDs, hospitals and clinics as a symbol of protest against the February 28 incident in which the Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki along with his supporters had assaulted doctors of GSVM Medical College at Kanpur, the doctors under the banner of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Jamshedpur chapter submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister through East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal.
During the meeting DC Amitabh Kaushal assured that steps would be taken to ensure safety and security of the medical fraternity. He also sought suggestions from the doctors to improve health services of the district particularly of MGM Hospital.
“The deputy commissioner has assured us that steps would be taken to ensure our safety. We are satisfied with the response from the administration,” noted Dubey.Mritunjay Singh, Secretary of IMA, Jamshedpur chapter went on to add that the doctors community have become a soft target. In the last few years the city has witnessed several such incidents wherein the aggrieved family members, relatives and acquaintances of the deceased patients tend to misbehave with the doctor on duty for his/her alleged negligence.
Lodging strong protest against the conduct of the patients’ attendants, the IMA has said if things continue to move in such a fashion it would get difficult for doctors to perform their duty without fear.
