Traditionally clad Marwari women worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati

Jamshedpur: The 16 day long Gangaur festival peacefully concluded here on Tuesday as hundreds of members of Rajasthani community comprising a majority of women participated in Gangaur and Jawara immersion ceremony.

Led by Om Prakash Ringsia, president of East Singhbhum Zila Marwari Sammelan, the devotees took out a grand immersion procession which reached Jayanti Sarovar at Jubilee Park after moving through various parts of the city.


Dancing and singing religious songs, the participants of the procession immersed Gangaur and jawar at the lake. The revelers also smeared abir and gulal on each other’s face to celebrate the occasion. Newly-wed brides were given special gifts on behalf of Marwari Sammelan for the first time during Gangaur festival.

Taking an initiative this year, the devotees abstained from throwing plastic and other non-degradable materials into the lake.

At the immersion venue, refreshments including ice-cream, syrups, soft drinks, kulfi and cold water were offered to the devotees. Various branches of Marwari Sammelan participated in the event.


Earlier, a collective Gangaur Puja ceremony was organized at Thakubari temple in Sakchi in the morning. The puja began at 9 am. Traditionally dressed Marwari women sang many religious bhajans and prayed to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for universal peace and prosperity.

The puja organizers included Umesh Sah, Ashok Modi, Bajrang Lal Agrawal, Pawan Agrawal, Banwarlal Khandelwal, Arun Bankrewal, Satyanarayan Agrawal, Naresh Modi, Sanwarmal Agrawal, Suresh Agrawal, Sunil Debuka, Manish Khanna, Kamal Naredi, Kishore Golchha, Deepak Parikh and Vishwanath Naredi.
