Jamshedpur, Aug 2: The Jamshedpur chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a webinar on the process of replying to notices and summons on GST. The keynote speaker was Jaipur CA Jatin Harjai. The webinar was anchored by ICAI secretary Sugam Saraiwala. The welcome address was delivered by chapter’s chairman Sanjay Goyal.
In his talk, Jatin Harjai stated that in the usual course any work based on tax laws commenced on issuance of notices and summons. He said that such notices and summons attracted, on the one hand, punishment for procedural noncompliance while, on the other, they opened the door for stern action. Harjai said that GST notifications and summons were issued on e-mail or web portals and warned that the tax payers should be all the more alert to receipt of those.
“Since GST is a new law, many officials are not adequately aware of all the clauses that may lead to errors in presentation of facts and figures. It therefore becomes all the more important to look closely into the technical aspects while filing GST returns,” Harjai said.
Explaining the realms of the technical aspects, CA Jatin Harjai stated, “You have to know whether the notice has been issued by the appropriate legal authority, if proper DINs have been mentioned, if the notice has been issued under the proper legal tenets and if the tax payer has been addressed properly. The timeframe should be adequate for the tax payer to file his reply satisfactorily. If any of the points mentioned is missing, the tax payer may raise primary objections which will be of help later.”
Vote of thanks was offered by Siddharth Khandelwal. More than 200 Chartered Accountants of the city benefitted through this webinar. The organizing team included Vikas Agrawal, Pankaj Shingari, Yogesh Sharma and Binod Saraiwala.
