Jamshedpur, Jan. 21: Governor Draupadi Murmu on Monday said that Jharkhand has infinite possibilities in every area of sports and if given proper training every house can produce a talented player.”It is time we provide a platform and bring the talents out,” she stressed.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Chancellor’s Trophy here at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Murmu said, “There is no alternative to hard work and everyone should be ready to try out his or her best along with maintaining the spirit of the game”.


The Governor hoped that Jharkhand archers would win gold medals in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics –2020 and make Jharkhand along with the rest of the country proud.

The two day Chancellor’s Trophy in Boxing and Archery is being hosted by Kolhan University at the JRD Tata Sports Complex from 21st January.

“The objective of the University is not only to offer degrees but it is also an institution for all round development of a human being. Sports events are important as they prepare students to be mentally strong for the challenges of life. We have seen players from Kolhan University making us proud and they will continue to do so in future too if we support them unhesitatingly,” added Murmu.

She also suggested that higher educational institutions could start martial arts and self defense classes that are the needs of the hour. Murmu also felicitated the archers who participated in the All India Inter University Archery Championship held at KIIT Bhubaneshwar in December last year.

The two- day sports competition will have more than 70 participants from six universities namely Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh; Ranchi University, Ranchi; Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee University Ranchi; Kolhan University; Sidho Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka and Koylanchal University Dhanbad.


Shukla Mahanty, Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University said, “Sports is very essential for personality development and thus the University has decided to support its sportspersons in all possible ways. We are proud of our students who have performed extremely well in the Inter University events”. She thanked Tata Steel for its support in sporting events and also expected colleges to take sporting activities seriously.

The Chancellor’s Trophy is an Inter-University sports meet to boost sporting talents across universities in Jharkhand. Other universities like the Sidhu-Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka; Vinobha Bhave University, Hazaribagh; Ranchi University and Birsa Agricultural University are also organising other sport events like Kho-Kho, football, cricket, badminton, volleyball and hockey.
