Jamshedpur, Feb 10: Ex serviceman Hawaldar Manjit Singh who gave a sterling performance in hockey at the National Masters Athletic Championship held in Vadodra was given a grand welcome at the Tatanagar station when he arrived by the Ahmadabad-Howrah Express today. He played hockey for the army team and is a national level judge in the event. He is associated with Tata Steel Naval Tata Hockey Academy.
At the Vadodra masters, playing for Punjab, Manjit Singh had a big hand in his team’s victory at all stages during its victory march in the finals. In the semi final match Punjab defeated Haryana 8-0 and beat Gujarat 2-0 in the final to bag the gold.
Members of the Purv Sainik Seva Parishad and Krira Bharati garlanded Hawaldar Manjit Singh on his arrival at the station. The gold medalist said, “The Masters was a golden opportunity for me to show my acumen and I plan to participate in more events next year.”
