Jamshedpur, Sept. 21: A 20-year-old girl choose the noose while a man handed himself from a ventilator in twin cases of suicide that jolted the city on Monday morning.
The 20-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging under Azadnagar police station area in Mango triggering sensation.
The girl identified as Sazia Perveen was a resident of Road No 3 in Barish Colony under Azadnagar police station area. The other body was that of a 31-year-old man which was found hanging from a ventilator of a residential quarter in Kadma this morning.
According to the information, the girl committed suicide over alleged love affair, leading the police to arrest her boy-friend identified as Mohammed Imtiaz (26) on Monday afternoon for abating her to take the step.
The police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Imtiaz, also a resident of Azadnagar, on the statement made by the younger sister of the deceased.
OC, Azadnagar police station, Vishnu Raut said that Imtiaz would love Sazia since the past six months. ” As per our information on Sunday evening, Sazia went to Mango market along with her younger sister and talked to another youth. But Imtiaz accidentally saw his beloved talking with another youth. On seeing her talking with a youth, Imtiaz did not only abuse her, but also slapped her repeatedly in the marketplace.
Deeply hurt by the incident, Sazia shut herself in her room. Latter on the parents broke open the door to find her hanging,” said the OC.
Raut said the family members had subsequently informed the police who seized the body for the post-mortem. The deceased’s younger sister opened her mouth so that the police could know the reason.
” We came to know that the younger sister was along with Sazia at the marketplace and had watched everything, she revealed to the police as to how Imtiaz slapped her sister for talking to another youth. On getting the statement we picked up Imtiaz from his house on Monday morning and arrested him,” said the OC.
While at Kadma area, the OC, Kadma police station Ranjit Kumar said that the body that has been recovered from the abandoned house is yet to be identified. He said they have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College Hospital for Covid-19 test before shifting it to the medical college mortuary for post-mortem.
About 120 suicides have been reported in just six months. Jamshedpur has retained its dubious distinction as the suicide capital of the State. An increasing number of young people are today falling prey to diseases like stress and depression with life revolving around lockdown due to the spread of coronavirus.
