Jamshedpur, April 24: Amid the ongoing corona spread, a 32-year-old RPF jawan deployed at Ghatshila in East Singhbhum district has tested positive for Covid-19 at Kharagpur.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla along with a health team went to Ghatshila. He was informed by the South Eastern Railway today about the RPF jawan from Ghatshila barrack being positive.

Two of the RPF personnel deputed at Ghatshila barrack had been part of a RPF contingent which had gone to Delhi and had returned via Kharagpur to Ghatshila earlier this month and had been kept under quarantine at the RPF barrack. However, after one of their personnel reports turned positive in Balasore the railway authorities called back the two RPF personnel to Kharagpur for Covid-19 testing wherein one of the personnel reports turned positive while the other one is negative.

However for precaution they have kept all the 20 RPF personnel in Ghatshila under quarantine at RPF barrack near Ghatshila station under vigilance and collected their samples for confirmatory test at MGM Medical College lab.

Meanwhile, South Eastern Railway spokesperson said that the RPF contingent comprising 28 personnel had gone to Anand Vihar (near Delhi) on March 19. A 26 RPF jawan of Kharagpur division who had gone to Delhi for bullet ammunition was found corona positive. On 16 April, all the soldiers had returned from a freight train to Kharagpur.

On Friday, as soon as it was learned that a soldier of Ghatshila RPF barrack has turned positive, the team of Health Department of East Singhbhum district reached Ghatshila. Samples of six soldiers was taken. There are 21 soldiers living in Ghatshila barrack right now. Now there is a demand that all these soldiers should be investigated.

Shukla said that the corona-infected soldier has been admitted to Kharagpur. An investigation is being conducted to ascertain where the infection occurred. At present, he will not be considered a patient of Jharkhand. However, all those who came in contact with him are being investigated.
