Tally of 290 includes 9 from Jamshedpur, 1 from Chandil
Ranchi, May 19: In the single-day highest COVID-19 figure in Jharkhand, 42 more persons on Wednesday tested positive for the novel coronavirus, taking the total number of cases to 290, officials said. The Director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr D K Singh, said that 18 cases were from Garhwa district while five persons were found infected in Koderma district. Garhwa district Civil Surgeon N K Razzak said all the 18 persons, who came from outside the state, were in quarantine centres after they returned.
Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) recorded nine cases.
Five positive cases came each from Giridih and Koderma while Chatra, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Gumla and Seraikela-Kharsawan recorded one corona case each. Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Bhuvnesh Prasad Singh said six person tested positive to the infection.
Of the 18 positives in Garhwa, 14 are residents of Korwadih village, three are from Pipri village in Kharaundhi Tehsil, and one from Manjhiaon.
Seraikela-Kharsawan reported second corona positive on Wednesday when a 25-year-old man who had travelled on foot from Pune to Rasunia village in Chandil, arrived on May 17. He was quarantined at Chandil Polytechnic Collage.
In East Singhbhum nine new cases of coronavirus positives upped the total tally to 15. Two from Mango, one from Golmuri and six of a family from Govindpur tested positive for coronavirus today. After their sample tests at MGM College Virology Department, the nine infected persons were shifted to the COVID-19 Ward of Tata Main Hospital.
The five positives from Giridih are migrants from Surat and residents of Jamua block. Giridih Civil Surgeon Dr Awdhesh Kumar Sinha confirmed the report about two positives in the district.
20 districts of Jharkhand are now infected with the virus.
The contact details and travel history of all the 42 positives is been looked up by the district officials.
20 districts out of 24 in the state have been infected with COVID19 with Seraikiela-Kharsawan and Gumla district being the recent entry in the list. All new samples tested positive are of the migrants and stranded labourers.
Out of 290 positive cases so far, 105 are from Ranchi, 47 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 15 from Palamau, 12 from Giridih, 5 from Deoghar, 6 from Dhanbad, 14 from Koderma, 38 from Hazaribagh, 15 from East Singhbhum, 4 from Latehar, 2 from Jamtara, 3 each from Simdega and Ramgarh, 2 from Dumka, 3 from Gumla, 2 from Lohardaga, 2 from Seraikela-Kharsawan, one each from West Singhbhum and Godda has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Capital Ranchi accounts for 105 out of a total of 290 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel. Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far.
The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi’s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
