Jamshedpur: MGM Medical College Hospital is back in news for wrong reason again. Freezer of the morgue at the hospital is lying defunct since the past one week.As a result of the freezer turning non-functional, the bodiesdead people at the hospital remain on the bed for a prolonged time, spreading wear of infection.
After freezer stopped functioning a week ago, the hospital authority also stopped shifting the body to the freezer and instead let the bodies to remain on the bed where the patients are dying.
The bodies are being shifted to medical college mortuary at Dimna about six kms away from the medical college hospital at Sakchi. The kin of the deceased have to receive the body from the medical college mortuary in Dimna.
Superintendent, BhartenduBhushan confirmed about the mortuary’s freezer getting defunct since the past one week.
” Yes the freezer is not functioning. There is some mechanical fault in the freezer of the hospital mortuary causing some problem. We are shifting the bodies of those who are dying to the medical college mortuary as early as possible,” claimed Bhushan.
The hospital superintendent also stated that they are trying to get the freezer repaired and have approached a private agency to get the freezer mended.
Bhushan, when asked, accepted that as most of the patients who get admitted in this government-run hospital from rural areas and mostly from poor families, the bereaved family members have to incur extra expenses for receiving the body from medical college mortuary in Dimna.
But sources in the hospital revealed that the body of patients remain lying on the hospital bed for hours together after the death. The bodies are not removed soon as there is acute shortage of ward-boys.
