Jamshedpur: A compensation fraud worth Rs 1.27 crore has been unearthed in Ghatsila. The case came to light in Sarhpura village under Ghatsila block where one Salay Murmu allegedly tried to mislead the court and the district administration by presenting forged papers to misappropriate the land belonging to a local resident, Tumpu Santhal. Murmu reportedly showed that one of Tumpu’s ascendants Viram Santhal was unmarried and dead. But later it was found that Viram Santhal was married and he has a grandson named Viram Murmu as shown by the family tree available with the Gram Pradhan and Mukhiya of the village.

The alleged fraud was detected after a probe conducted by the special land acquisition officer of Swarnarekha Multipurpose Project (SMP). But despite an adverse report, the SMP authorities concerned did not consider the probe report at the time of paying compensation to Salay Murmu, claimed Dinesh Mahato, district convenor of Aam Admi Party, on coming to know of the alleged fraud, approached the deputy commissioner (DC) to seek a fresh probe and action against the accused persons. He sought RTI reply in this case to expose the alleged fraud and sent the copy of the RTI reply to the DC.
