Jamshedpur: The land mafia has usurped the area with the foundation stone laid by Chief Minister Raghubar Das and MP Bidyut Baran Mahto on June 2, 2016 for construction of a road. The area is in the Chief Minister’s East Vidhan Sabha constituency in Refugee Line under the Golmuri PS jurisdiction.
However, the administrative authorities are unaware of this incident. When pointed out, the East Singhbhum DC Amit Kumar stated that he was not aware of the development. “If this has happened, definitely the matter will be probed. If construction work is found to be illegal, strong steps will be taken against such offenders,” the DC assured.
The land mafia active in this area seemingly cares two hoots for government property as is proved by its move to include the Chief Minister’s plaque within the compound of the illegally taken over government land to build shops on. More shops are being constructed here with gay abandon.
It may be mentioned here that the matter of 86 bastis is very well known and a part of the saffron party’s political manifesto. But with the land mafias going about grabbing government property and creating more tenements the basti numbers have increased to 125 and if the government officials continue to slumber over this grave problem, the basti count may well exceed 200.
