Jamshedpur: Former MLA Sukhram Oraon joined Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Sunday. He was inducted into the party in the presence of JMM’s executive president and former CM Hemant Soren in Ranchi. He had quit BJP only a week ago.
Oraon reached the state capital with his supporters today. He met the JMM executive president and expressed his desire to join the party. He said the JMM was his old home and that he had gone astray. He said he had finally returned home.
Party sources said a grand function will soon be held in Chaibasa to formally welcome Oraon, his wife Navami Oraon and his supporters from West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan. Hemant Soren and many JMM MLAs and other leaders are expected to attend the function, sources said.
Oraon had accused the state BJP president Laxman Giluwa of trying to usurp the party. He said he felt stifled in the party due to Giluwa’s presence. He is now being seen as the common candidate of the Opposition parties’ grand alliance from the Singhbhum Parliamentary seat.
Oraon had joined the BJP in 2013. He started his political career with AJSU. He contested Lok Sabha elections on AJSU’s ticket in 2004. He later joined the JMM and contested the assembly elections on JMM’s ticket in 2005.
