Jamshedpur: Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda has been appointed as the working president of Jharkhand Archery Association ( JAA). After being elected the President of Jharkhand Archery Association, he expressed his gratitude towards the association.
The affiliated districts and clubs of the JAA unanimously approved the name of the former Chief Minister at an executive committee meeting convened at the conference hall of JRD Tata Sports Complex. The meeting was chaired by JAA senior vice-president Bailey Bodhanwala.
JAA president Sunil Bhaskaran has also resigned from his post, paving way for Munda to head the association. Bhaskaran, who was Tata Steel vice-president (corporate services), was recently transferred to Bangalore as chief executive and MD of Air Asia India.
Munda said that there is an innate archery talent not only in Jharkhand but in the children of all tribal areas of the country. There is a need to boost such talent in tribal areas and give them better platform. The former CM said that although Jharkhand has been performing well in archery but there still a lot needs to be done in this area.
He said that he will work to promote young talent of archery in all the districts of Jharkhand. He will ensure that players bag gold medals in archery during the Olympic Games.
Sharing future plans, Munda said that the state level archery competition will be organised in Kharsawan from January 27 to 29. Various district teams of the state will participate in the coveted tournament.
The newly appointed president has a strong attachment towards archery too. Munda is the founder of Seraikela-Kharsawan Archery Association and Academy. He established the association in 2004 and his wife Meera Munda is the president of the Seraikela-Kharsawan association. At present, about 50 archers are taking lessons in the archery association’s training camp. Munda had established the Archery Academy in the year 2006 in Duggni.
The talent of international archers Deepika Kumari, Gora Ho, Paltan Hansda was discovered by Munda himself. Apart from this, three dozen international and more than one hundred national level archers have emerged from this training academy so far. Even now dozens of national level players are being trained in the academy.
Meanwhile, Seraikela-Kharsawan Archery Association has congratulated former Chief Minister for being appointed as the president of State association.
Seraikela-Kharsawan Archery Association President Meera Munda, Secretary Sumanth Chandra Mohanty, Vice President Mangal Singh Soy, Co-Secretary Uday Sinhdev, besides international coaches Harendra Singh, BS Rao, Himanshu Mohanty have congratulated Munda for taking over the new role.
