Jamshedpur, Jan. 12: The Tata Network Forum, in collaboration with Tata Steel’s Ethics Department, organised the Ethics Conclave 2020 at the Beldih Club on 10th January. T M Bhasin, Former Vigilance Commissioner and Chairman of the Advisory Board for Banking Frauds, Reserve Bank of India, was the keynote speaker at the Conclave. The event was attended by senior leaders from various Tata Group companies.

TV Narendran, CEO & MD, Tata Steel and Chairman, Tata Network Forum India East spoke about the importance of recalibrating our standards in line with global standards. He also emphasised on how Tata Steel is relooking at current processes to make them robust as well as strengthening consequence management to keep pace with changing times and needs. Underlining the importance of maintaining consistency to build credibility, Narendran stressed on the role that employees play as organisational ambassadors who are responsible for upholding Tata Steel’s values. 

Bhasin spoke about how Government bodies of vigilance, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation and Comptroller Auditor General, acted as watchdogs and gatekeepers of unethical and dubious businesses. He emphasised on the importance of integrity in thought translating into ethical actions. Mr Bhasin also shared anecdotes from his professional life, expounding on how he dealt with the many frauds that were exposed during his tenure at various banks.

A panel discussion on ‘Reputational Risk: Threat to Survival of Organisations’ reflected on key aspects that may affect organisational reputation in today’s times of increased awareness and scrutiny by all stakeholders. It focused on the importance of small acts of integrity matters and also shed light on the volume of damage a single irresponsible action can have on organisational reputation.
