Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur police have decided to take a leap ahead of the administration for installation of CCTV cameras across the city. Police have marked 11 such points in Sakchi, termed as escape routes where these electronic eyes will keep round the
clock vigil on criminals. The step has been taken to curb increasing criminal activities in town.
To crack a whip on the movement of criminals in the city, the police have finally selected a
local company for installing the scanners on pilot project basis. In the first phase, 11 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic locations in Sakchi areas and on the basis of the review of the electronic gadgets, the police will be giving further order. Revealing about the move, superintendent of police (city) Karthik S said that they gave work order today to a local company, Ain Ad.com for installing the CCTV cameras.
“With this we have also decided to keep round the clock vigil on the movement of criminals and bad elements on the city roads. For this we have mooted a proposal to install CCTV cameras on escape routes. The plan has been made on scientific basis keeping the crime point in the view.
The move will not only curb the movement of criminals and bad elements but will also impart
the sense of security amongst the residents,” he noted.
Karthik said while giving the work order to the citybased firm, the district police has also sent papers to the state police headquarters for necessary clearance. He informed that the
police headquarters clearance is likely to be obtained by the beginning of next week.
He pointed out that for the CCTV pilot project, they will set up a monitoring cell at Police Control Room (PCR) located on the Sakchi police station premises and the cameras will be
connected to the monitoring cell through overhead cables.
With the crime-graph soaring in the steel city, the district police seemed to have prompted to get the city covered with the electronic gadgets.
According to Kartik, the roads in important localities like Bistupur, Sakchi and Golmuri will be given priority in the first phase of the CCTV camera installation and in the later stage the localities with lesser civic importance will be selected for the same.
The Sakchi square is notorious for traffic snarls, thanks to unruly auto drivers who blatantly flout every rule in the book and often park their vehicles blocking the freeway. Most of these auto drivers often escape penalty by bribing the traffic constable on duty.Besides, the CCTV
camera may also go a long way in tracking perpetrators of crime or vehicles involved in accidents in the area, he pointed the police officer The camera will help in easily identifying people involved in antisocial activities in the area.
