Cabinet grants Rs 75 cr, approves GIS-based master plan for Jamshedpur

Ranchi: Jharkhand Cabinet here on Monday gave its nod to set up new dairy plants in Jamshedpur and Giridih at an expense of Rs 75.34 crore. Jharkhand Milk Federation will be setting up the plants. It also gave approval to spend Rs 22.61 crore in 2017-18.

After the commissioning of the plant, Jharkhand would be well on the road to become self-dependent in milk production.

The government also have plans to set up two more milk processing plants, each having production capacity of 50,000 lakh litres daily, in Palamau and Sahebganj (in Santhal Pargana) for which land acquiring process is ongoing.

Significantly, Jharkhand Milk Federation, which sells milk under the Medha Dairy brand, has a 1.2 lakh-litre capacity processing plant at Hotwar, Ranchi. Once the Jamshedpur unit starts operations, it will be the second largest state-owned milk processing centre in Jharkhand.

It may be noted that Jharkhand’s daily milk requirement is nearly 5 lakh litres, out of which, around 3 lakh litres are provided by Sudha Dairy of Bihar.

In another important decision, the Cabinet approved the GIS-based Master Plan 2041 for Jamshedpur. The Cabinet further granted Rs 5 crore for organizing Jharkhand’s foundation day ceremony on 15th November.
