Jamshedpur: City police Monday busted a racket involved in cyber crime across several states including Jharkhand by arresting one Omkar Singh, resident of Baliguma. They confiscated 25 cloned ATM cards, two ATM cards of Axis Bank, VISA card of ICICI Bank, nine bank passbooks, two forged voter ID cards, three mobile phone SIMs, two cheque leaves, eight ATM pin codes and two mobile phones.
According to SSP Jamshedpur Anoop Birtharay, the accused and his associates used to withdraw cash from the bank accounts of their victims by cloning their ATM cards through forgery. The accused has confessed his involvement in the crimes committed by the racket, said the SSP.
Police lodged an FIR against Omkar Singh under Section 420, 467, 468, 471, 34 IPC and 66 C and D of Information Technology Act.
The SSP said the accused persons used to obtain confidential information of ATM cards used by unsuspecting victims at various ATM kiosks by installing a small card reader and micro camera in the ATM. Later, by using the secret pin, data cable and laptop, the accused used to withdraw money at different locations.
The police team comprised DSP, Cyber Crime, Jayshree Kujur, ASP Kumar Gaurav, DSP Patamada Vijay Kumar Mahato, OC of MGM PS Arvind Kumar, Cyber Crime Inspector Upendra Kumar Mandal, ASI Ajit Kumar Rajak of Cyber Crime PS, Jamshedpur, and other armed cops.
