Jamshedpur, March 3: Coronavirus has become a global crisis and India’s corporate world has been among the hardest hit. Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said Coronavirus is a threat to the country and businesses have been affected by this.

 “Tata Group has the capacity to overcome all challenges as this 150 years old group has seen two World Wars and several ups and downs but we have faced it with full potential and we will overcome this challenge too,” said Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

Interacting with the media on the side lines of the Founder’s Day celebration inside the Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works Tuesday, Chandrasekaran further said, “We are keeping an eye on the Coronavirus issue as the global businesses have been worst affected by the disease. We can’t  tell how long this problem will persist but keeping an eye on the situation Tata Group is working on better choices.”

People’s income to double by 2030

Replying to a query, Chandrasekaran said, the future belongs to India and by the year 2030 the country will be more developed and by then people’s income will be doubled and with support of youth the country will establish itself on the world stage. By 2030 Indian middleclass will rise and the country will be strengthened, said Chandrasekaran.

Talking about the future, the Chairman informed that Tata Group will focus on investing in India for which the Group will be taking steps keeping in mind the challenges.

Tata Steel to be a 25 mt company    

Tata Sons Chairman went on to say that Tata Steel has a lot of potential and by the year 2025 we will produce 25 million tonnes of steel with the help of Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar, Bhusan Steel and Usha Martin. “We have been investing in Kalinganagar, Bhusan Steel and Long Products (Usha Martin) which will help increase their production capacity. With continuing investment in Tata Steel the company will be successful in coping with any economic challenge.”

Jamshedpur to be developed

Natarajan Chandrasekaran said Tata Group has been developing Jamshedpur and will strive to make it a model town. The foundation of Tata Group was laid in Jamshedpur and this city has been and will remain special for Tata Sons. “I always love to come to Jamshedpur and on Founder’s Day the excitement level doubles. Tata Group is following in the footsteps of Founder JN Tata who more than 100 years back, had envisioned a city with big parks, play grounds, wide roads and basic civic facilities like water and electricity,” added the Chairman.
