Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP president Dinesh Kumar Tuesday said the Narendra Modi government had taken a historic decision by proposing to to give 10 per cent quota to the economically backward members of upper castes. He said the upper castes were long deprived of reservation and other benefits even after 70 years of Independence. Now the PM has decided to give the upper castes their rightful, he said.
The BJP president said the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government had also formed a group of ministers in 2003 with the same intentions. But the Manmohan Singh government neglected the proposal altogether after assuming power. The Congress government wanted to appease the minorities.
State BJP spokesperson Rajesh Kumar Shukla said the PM has taken a bold decision by proposing to provide quota to the upper castes who had long been neglected by successive governments. “Upper castes were not given any reservation benefit till before Modi government decided to give them reservation benefits. They have long been suffering without any fault,” he said.
