Jamshedpur, Dec 10: Famous classical and ghazals vocalist Sangita Chatterjee passed away today at 10 am at a private hospital in Hyderabad. She was ailing with cancer for the past three months. She was 47 years old. Her mortal remains will be brought back to the city on Wednesday, December 11 at 12 noon and the funeral rites will be performed thereafter.
The news of Sangita’s demise cast a pall of gloom on music lopvers. She was associated with Jamshedpur Music Circle and was a member of the organization’s executive body.
The president of Jamshedpur Music Circle Aniruddha Sen condoling Sangita Chatterjee’s death stated, “Sangita was a gem of an artiste and a great human being. Her tender nature found reflection in her musical renditions.” Joint secretary Subhash Bose observed, “There are a very few people who did not know Sangita. But to the world of music and music lovers, Sangita’s demise is a big and irreplaceable blow.”
