Jamshedpur : The markets are flooded with Christmas items with new and various kinds of showpieces, gift and decorative items on offer.
Starting from Christmas bells of various sizes to designer candles, everything comes at an affordable range at the gift shops in the city. As always Christmas trees, this time available in different colours are available at a range of Rs 1000. Apart from the traditional green, tree made up of golden, silver and glittering green have caught the eyes of customers in the city.

“The rush has started. People are picking up pieces of Christmas trees that starts from a range of Rs 200 depending upon the dsign and type. We expect the sales to be higher next week as there is still some time for Christmas. A lot of new products will also reach in a day or two,” said Arun Kumar, a salesperson of Vijay Bhandar, a gift shop in Bistupur.

The Vijay Bhandar has a number of gift items, the new attraction this year being the musical and moving showpieces with mother Mary and Jesus christ. Snow balls are also available where tiny thermocol pieces have been used to create the snowy effect inside the ball with Santa Claus inside it. This costs Rs 2000. Christmas bells for decoration purpose is also available at Rs 649 per set.

“We have been selling a lot of candles this year. We have got special candles priced at a range of Rs 120 and Rs 169, which are affordable and highly in demand. This looks very attractive as showpieces because when you light them it glows even inside it. The light inside is visible because the wax is transparent,” said Nagesh of Gift Centre.

Other Christmas items in the market are soft toys like Santa Claus dresses for 10-year-olds which comes at a price of Rs 600 to Rs 850. Teddy bear is also a craze among kids along with Christmas greeting cards. Not to forget the chocolate packets that starts from Rs 139 to Rs 1000. Also there are decorated glittering candles which people can offer at the Church. Silver and golden candles as well as candle stands are too in demand. Candles are priced at Rs 125 while crystal candle stands can go up to Rs 500- Rs 800.

Decoration balls available at Rs 89 to Rs 400 a packet are also available. Santa Claus toys, considered as one of the ideal gifts every Christmas also have a good demand. The price range starts from Rs 65 to Rs 110 for the normal ones.

Christmas trees are in demand and so are decorative items like bells, boxes and Santa Claus made in various forms. However, the bakery shops are one working hard to meet the orders of cakes and pastries on time. The bakery shops are flooded with orders for Christmas cake.

“I celebrate the festival at home every year. Last night, I stayed up to bake cookies, a mix of Bengali and English delicacies, at home. I combed the Bistupur markets for goodies and material to install a crib at home. I believe nothing is better than being at home during Christmas,” Chandni Bedi, an employee of an international company now based in New Delhi.
