Jamshedpur, July 3: Famous choreographer Saroj Khan breathed her last early this morning. She was undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital she suffered a cardiac arrest at about 2 am today. She was 71 years old.
Saroj Khan Dance Academy was set up in Jamshedpur with Bharat Singh as chairman and Kamal Kishore Agrawal and Parshuram Mishra as directors. The legendary danseuse herself inaugurated the Academy on March 3, 2010 and a glittering programme of dance was organized at the Tata Auditorium in XLRI campus to celebrate the occasion.
Saroj Khan made it a point to visit Jamshedpur at intervals of two months and provide vital tips on various dance forms to students at the Academy. Her name and fame saw eager students making a beeline to pick up the nuances of the dancing maestro’s magical steps. Many among the students have now carved a niche in the various tinsel towns as artistes and dance directors.
But gradually, Saroj Khan’s visits to Jamshedpur became rare and at a point of time she could no longer make it to the city. But her legacy lives on in the students of Saroj Khan Dance Academy.
