Jamshedpur: A three and a half year old girl, Rani Kaivarta, died 15 hours after vaccination in Indasai village of Hensalbil panchayat in Potka on Friday. Irked over her demise, local villagers created ruckus at the local community health centre (CHC) alleging that the negligence of CHC staff led to the child’s death.
Sources said the child, daughter of Ashwini Kaivarta and Aarati Kaivarta, died at home in the wee hours. Earlier in the day, the child was given OPV, Rotavirus and Pentavalent vaccines at the Potka CHC by the ANM Raimani Das. Panicked by the situation, Ashwini took the child to a rural medical practitioner in Shankarda but failed to get her treated.
In the morning, the child was taken to the Potka CHC. In the absence of doctors, the ANM declared the child dead. According to Aarati, her daughter was healthy before vaccination, but she died after returning from the CHC.
Local Zila Parishad member Sanjeev Sardar alleged that the child had died of medical negligence. Many JMM leaders reached the CHC and demanded legal action against the ANM and other CHC staff.
