Jamshedpur: The alumni of South Eastern Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School, Chakradharpur, organized a reunion at South West Institute on 19th October last.
Over a hundred members, a part of the huge network of alumni of the school, discussed and planned a mega event scheduled to be held sometime in April, 2014.
The alumni congregated to relive their old memories, and enjoy a full day with great food, great music, and great company. The mega event is expected to have a gathering of more than 500 alumni, by some conservative estimates.
It was the first ever alumni meet, bringing together those who had passed through the hallowed portals of the school since the early 1980s, when it started holding the ICSE examinations.
Before that it was a primary and later a junior secondary school. Today, its alumni have reached the farthest corners of the world, and have excelled as professionals – doctors, engineers, professors, media persons, entrepreneurs, CAs, lawyers, etc.
Whatever their profession, all are bound by the love and affection they have for their alma mater, the lovely green environs of Chakradharpur, and their basic foundation of good citizenship laid down by their beloved teachers.
As a prelude to the mega event, or the Gala Reunion, in the midst of fun and frolic, serious business was also conducted, as the group met, convened by Prof. Naveen Das, an alumnus of the early 1980s, and currently working as the Director of NSHM Business School, Kolkata, to plan the nitty-gritty.
Worthy alumni like Arati Patra, Sadhan Mukhi, Sohail Ahmed, Hari Samineni, Rajib Biswas, Abhishek Choudhury, Vikas Jain, Mahua Majumdar, Ashok Bhadra, Manish Bhageria, Anindya Mitra, Souresh Chatterjee, Chandan Pradhan, Neha Singh, Deepraj Chatterjee, just to name a few, cutting across 30 odd years of history, put their efforts to make the day a signal success.
Beloved teachers like Miss Kamala Majumdar and Mr. AK Singh graced the occasion and blessed their ex-students. It was truly an event when most eyes went moist with joy and nostalgia.
The committees formed to handle the various aspects of the gala reunion will soon jump into action. Through modern technology backed social media, the committees hope to rope in almost the entire group of alumni in future, and make the mega event a truly memorable one.
The alumni body has grandiose plans to give back to the school and to their beloved place, Chakradharpur, in the days to come.
