Jamshedpur : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today launched ‘Sand Satryagraha’. BJP activists led by district president Raj Kumar Srivastava observed Sand Satyagraha at DC office.
The agitation is to demand free quarrying of sand from the ghats. BJP president, speaking to the mediapersons, said that the BJP workers will stage dharna at the district headquarters all over the State and hand over the sand collected from the various sites in the district.
The party is demanding to make sand quarrying free in the State till any final decision is taken by the Government as the current arrangement has resulted into severe shortage of sand for development work posing a threat on the livelihood of the labourers.
He also said that the party workers will start collecting iron from all the panchayats across the State for the ‘Statue of Unity’ for which kits have already been distributed among them.
The kit has a blank banner for taking signatures, a pot for collecting soil from every village along with an invitation card for them in it.
