Jamshedpur : BJP activists staged massive demonstration at DC office over failure of Tata Steel to provide power and civic amenities slums near Tata Steel command areas.

“Though we had several meetings with officials of Tata Steel and Jusco over the issues of providing power and drinking water to the urban slum dwellers but nothing has been done so far. This has been laid down in the clause of the lease agreement between Tata Steel and state government that they would have to provide civic amenities to slums near company township. But unfortunately, nothing happened forcing us to take up agitation,” said Sanjeev Singh.

Another senior leader said that people of fringe areas are reeling under water crisis these days. For them drinking water is a problem of enormous proportions. The water level at hand pumps have gone down significantly.

These settlements are remotely located due to which people have to bring water to a distance of about 2 km, which is a major concern. Jusco should supply water every day. He said that if district administration and Jusco does not start supplying water and power at the basti areas the residents would stage agitation at the office.

While stressing the problem, the JVM leader said that on the one hand the company is spending thousands of gallons of water for keeping the golf course green, but it is doing nothing to meet the need of drinking water to the slums surrounding it.

Meanwhile, the JVM functionaries declared that they would carry out similar protest every weekend unless the basic civic facilities are not extended to all the slums surrounding the company.

Ram Babu Tiwari, Chandra Shekhar Singh , Kulwant Singh Bunty , Somu Satbir Singh , Dinesh Kumar Haldar Narayan Shah , Nandji Prasad , Pawan Agarwal , Gunjan Yadav were present on the occasion.
