Jamshedpur, Nov. 20: Tata Steel franchise Jamshedpur FC faced a big blow on Tuesday when their young star and local lad Gourav Mukhi was suspended by All India Football Federation (AIFF) in a case of age related anomaly.
AIFF Disciplinary Committee has also summoned Mukhi for a hearing in the case and asked him to appear at the headquarters on November 24. Gourav has been debarred from playing any match till the final decision is made.
“In the interest of fair play, the AIFF Disciplinary Committee, based on prima facie seriousness of the issue, has put the player under ‘suspension’ from participation in any AIFF event until a final decision is reached,” a press release by the AIFF disciplinary committee said.
Gourav Mukhi’s age factor came up in October this year when the Jamshedpur lad played a brilliant match against Bengaluru FC and scored his first Indian Super League (ISL) goal that helped Jamshedpur FC play a 2-2 draw. This match earned him the tag of the youngest to score an ISL goal.
According to the passport, Gourav Mukhi’s birth date is 2002 but in the year 2015 it was mentioned that his date of birth was 1999. During the National Championship in 2015 when Gourav’s age anomaly came to light, AIFF suspended the Jharkhand coach for a year and put a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Jharkhand Football Federation.
Gourav Mukhi is a resident of Dhatkidih area of the Steel City. With this new action of AIFF the Jamshedpur lad’s career may be in doldrums. Till the AIFF Disciplinary Committee’s final decision comes in, Mukhi will not be able to play for Jamshedpur FC nor any state or national level tournaments.
