Jamshedpur, July 16: District police have sent a team to Deoghar to probe the mysterious death of Balajore block development officer (BDO), Nagendra Tiwary. The family member has filed a case of abduction and murder with the Jugsalai police station against Daud Alam, mukhiya of Balajore panchayat in connection to the death of Balajore block development officer (BDO), Nagendra Tiwary.

The deceased’s  elder brother Satyendra Tiwary filed an FIR after his mutilated body was found along the railway track under Jugsalai police station  area and later identified it as that of the BDO.

SSP M Tamil Vanan informed that a team has been sent to Deoghar to probe the incident. The focus is on the deceased being harassed by mukhiya and other functionaries of the panchayat. The police had registered a case of Unnatural Death after they suspected it to be a case of suicide, but after getting an FIR from a kin of the deceased they had to turn the case into abduction and murder.

“We have sent a team to Deoghar and we are confident that we will reach a conclusion soon . The deceased’s brother has alleged in the FIR that the mukhiya of Balajore panchayat had abducted the BDO from near his Jamshedpur residence and murdered him before dropping the body on the railway track.  We will find out the truth,” said a police officer.

Nagendra (45) who was a bachelor was staying at his brother’s residence in PWD Colony in Sakchi since the past 12 days, having gone on leave from his duty at Balajore block in Deoghar district.  Sources in the family and relatives had on Monday said that he was suffering from depression.  The same sources had also told the media that mukhiya of Balajore panchayat and a government officer had been harassing the deceased.

The officer said even if the murder angle in the BDO’s death is not established and the police get any evidence that he (the BDO) committed suicide after being harassed by anyone, then the police will also take action against those involved in harassing the officer.
