Jamshedpur: District BJP spokesperson Ankit Anand Tuesday demanded stringent action against private schools increasing fees exorbitantly and forcing guardians to purchase uniforms, books and stationery from particular agencies or shops.

The BJP leader met the district education officer of East Singhbhum Shivendra Kumar and handed him a petition along with a copy of the Jharkhand Education Tribunal (Amendment) Act. He said the education department should initiate exemplary action against private schools exploiting students and guardians every year.

Anand had earlier spoken to Amarendra Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary of School Education and Literacy Department of Jharkhand Government, and apprised him of the educational scenario in the city. He said many private schools were still violating the JET Act with impunity. He said school managements were lining their pockets while poor students were coughing up huge sums to get education.

The DEO assured the BJP leader of strict implementation of the JET Act. He said the private schools were not above law. He said a letter would be sent to the Income Tax department to take action against such educational institutions.
