Jamshedpur, Feb 12: Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur defeated United Sports Club (USC), Kolkata 4-2 in a tiebreaker match played at Iqbal Singh Stadium in Chakradharpur on Tuesday. TFA goalkeeper Shivnandan Yadav performed brilliantly to help the team register the win in the 28th All India Steel Express Football Tournament. Shivnandan Yadav saved two goals of Kolkata team and was declared the man of the match.
Chakradharpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chhatrasal Singh was the chief guest for the occasion and awarded the winners. Earlier, both the teams failed to score a goal in the allotted time which saw a see-saw battle between both the teams. Players from both the sides tried hard to score a goal and created chances but failed to convert it into goals.
In the first half TFA played better while in the second half Kolkata dominated the proceedings.
Kolkata side had two Nigerian origin players but they failed to make much of an impact. Players from the both the sides were disciplined today and none of the future soccer stars were shown a yellow card.
During tie breaker Chaitan, Manas, Samarjit and Gaurab scored for TFA while from the Kolkata side Farukh Seikh and Rahul Purkait scored a goal each. Babun Das and Tarak Ghosh’s efforts were blocked by TFA custodian Shivanandan Yadav. Earlier, the match was inaugurated by DRM Chhatrasal Singh in presence of assistant ADRM Anoop Kumar hembrom, senior DPO Manik Shankar, senior DCM cum sports officer Bhaskar, DCM Arjun Majumdar. Referees for the match were G Suresh Kumar, Sunil Mahato, Chunnu, K Jagganath Rao.
TFA to face Mohammedan Sporting today
The second quarter final of the tournament will be played on Wednesday where Tata Football Academy (TFA) will take on defending champions Kolkata’s famous club Mohammedan Sporting. It is worth mentioning that Jamshedpur FC Reserves is already in semis after registering two wins. The team who wins on Wednesday will play against JFC Reserves on February 19.
