Jamshedpur, March 20 : Adityapur is preparing for the maiden municipal corporation polls.The residents of the town located in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district are excited to participate in the process.
The process of Adityapur municipal corporation polls for a five-year-term has started. Nomination filing has started from March 16 and will continue till Thursday. The last date for withdrawing the nomination is March 27. The polling will be held on April 16.
RadhaSandil, chairperson, Adityapur Municipal Council said that after the Adityapur civic body has upgraded to municipal corporation and a new executive body will be elected, the Adityapur municipal corporation will larger amount of fund for the development of the township.
She said the civic poll in Adityapur assumes significance because the polling is not only for a municipal corporation for the first time, but also because the elections will be held on political party lines.
With a population of over 2.5 lakh, Adityapur municipal council is comprised of 32 wards. The total number of voters in the area is 1,03,055.Adityapur has been upgraded to a corporation, fifth in the state. The others are in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Hazaribag and Bokaro.
Prior to this Adityapur Municipal Council, (AMC), the civic body was looking after Adityapur and Gamharia in the adjoining SeraikelaKharsawan district.
The AMC had a population of 1,73, 783 as per the 2011 Census will be getting better facilities in the areas of drinking water, sanitation and sewerage system.
Development work by Adityapur Municipal Corporation is expected to gain momentum Heaps of garbage can be seen in every nook and corner, drains are choked with sewage and streets are waterlogged.
BJP activists Vinod Srivastava and Bobby Singh will file nominations for the post of mayor and deputy mayor respectively. RJD activist Purendra Narayan Singh and AJSU Party activist Sachin Kumar Mahto have filed for the post of mayor.
