Jamshedpur, Sept 18: Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Expedition to Mt. Kang Yatse was successful with 8 members from Tata Steel reaching the Summit on September 8, 2019. 3 members of the expedition unfortunately had to return. The team members who reached the Summit are- Praveen (Office of General Manager, West Bokaro), Deepak Kumar Sah (Field Maintenance Electrical), Vaibhav Jain (Scientific Services), Twisampati Bhandari (Product Technology Flat Products), Shubhanand Mukesh (Environment Management), Pankaj Kumar (Office of Chief R & D), Rajesh Mallik (CRM), Sandeep Kumar Tanwar (Capital Planning – Engg & Project).
Mt. Kang Yatse II (20 830’) situated in Leh – Markha valley in Ladakh region was selected for the expedition because of the thrill and adventure the trek provides. A Semi Alpine style approach to climbing was taken where team members themselves planned for everything like ration requirement, equipment requirement, transportation, load ferry to higher camps thus doing away with porters etc. , in line with TSAFs effort to run programmes in a self-sustaining manner. TSAF experts provided necessary guidance and support to ensure safety for all as well as for providing experiential learning on leadership skills.
Rajendra Singh Pal, Mt. Everest Summiteer and a highly qualified TSAFs Programme Officer having nearly 3 decades of field experience was overall in-charge of the expedition with support from L Annapurna and Anil Rana both highly experienced TSAF Instructors. Sushanta Mahato another experienced TSAF staff member was the quarter master who looked after the food requirement.
