Experts brainstorm on sustainable growth
Jamshedpur : The 6th National Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (NCSE) started with a grand inauguration ceremony.
The event was presided over by the Director, Fr. E Abraham, S.J. and the local community members of SEEDS, an NGO working for the development of communities.
The session began with the lighting of the lamp by Mrs. Parvati and Mr. Brahaspati, two of the many people whom the inputs of the conference will impact greatly.
Prof. Madhukar Shukla invited these people to hold a session on ‘Voices from the Grassroots’ in which villagers of the local community shared their experiences and opinions on what development actually means to the rural population.
The speakers very gently touched upon the humble aspects of their lives related with Natural Resources, Livelihood through Farming, Community Mobilization, Evils of Alcoholism, Rural Healthcare and Entrepreneurship.
The audience was enthralled to see the emotional connect of these people with the grassroots which set the theme for the subsequent speakers.
Post Lunch, the conference had two sessions, one on Building Sel Reliant commmunities and the other on Creating Markets and Boosting Local Economy.
While the first session had speakers like Dr. Joe Madiath, Executive Director, Gram Vikas, who spoke about how self reliant communities sound almost impossible in today’s world and how self reliant communities can be attained by following the principle of No exclusion, the other speaker Michelle Chawla, Co-Founder, Tamarind Tree, highlighted the works of 3 groups namely Nomad, Tamarind tree and Gandhiana farmers collective around building self reliant communities.
The session also witnessed some extremley interesting pointers from Stan Thekaekara, Founder, Just Change India, who had the audience captivated with his take on the topic.
The second session too witnessed the same with speakers like Prema Gopalan,Executive Director Swayam Shikshan Prayog , Umadevi Swaminathan, MD, Rudi Multi Trading Company and Prabaleen Sabhaney, Head-Corp Comm & Public Affairs, FabIndia.
The 3 day conference also had an interesting Break Out Group session which was designed to bring the conference community together into one small, intense theme based groups.
