Jamshedpur : A 35-year-old youth committed suicide at a residential flat in Tube Baridih under Sidhgora police station area this morning.
The deceased was identified as Rajkumar Sonar and was a bachelor. He committed suicide by hanging himself with a cloth.
The police have also recovered two empty bottles of liquor from the room in which the body was found hanging. The room’s door which was locked from inside neighbours along with family members opened it.
Officer-in-charge, Sidhgora police station, Ganesh Kumar Singh said this to be a case of suicide. “As per our initial investigation it was a clear case of suicide, we have sent the body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for an autopsy having registered a case under Section unnatural death,” said the officer-in-charge According to police, the deceased was jobless and was leading a life in depression.
As of now 201 persons have committed suicide in the steel city from January 1 till today, according to a Jeevan, a suicide prevention centre operating in the city.
City based suicide prevention center Jeevan, has informed that the past year has been testing year for the Steel city with an average of one person ending life abruptly on every alternative day.
An official said said that during their study they have found that depression and rising pressure to perform is the prime reason for the rising suicides among teenagers while family feud is taking toll on the middle aged persons.
