Jamshedpur: A 22-year-old girl, who had eloped with her lover from the Tatanagar station a month ago, surrendered before the government railway police (GRP), Tatanagaron Sunday morning.

The girl who is a resident of Dimna locality in Mango surrendered herself before the railway police. Sources said that the girl decided to surrender only after her lover identified as Ganesh Paswan deserted her.The girl, when asked, said that they had gone to Delhi after fleeing the steel city.

After taking the girl into their custody, the railway police, Tatanagar sent her to MGM Medical College Hospital for getting a medical examination as she had been subjected to sexually exploitation during her stay with Paswan.
Deputy superintendent of police, Tatanagar, Christopher Kerketta said that the girl had eloped with the youth from the Tatanagar station on October 13 evening, when her parents were busy taking ticket for a Chhapra-bound train at the Tatanagar station.

” After investigation we came to know that the girl’s marriage was fixed at her native place in Chhapra and hence her parents were going along with their daughter. As the girl father had gone to the reservation counter and mother, the girl ran away from the place on the plea that she was going to a loo. But she had fled the station with her lover. After a thorough search and prolonged wait, the parents had lodged a missing person report with the GRP thana Tatanagar,” said Kerketta.

The DSP said soon after the girl came to the GRP thana, they had informed her father who talked to his daughter before lodging an FIR against the youth, Ganesh Paswan. He said as Ganesh was a neighbour of the girl, they had raided his house in Dimna, but he was missing.

“ The girl has claimed that she was abused by her lover and latter ditched her. We have sent her to hospital for medical examination,” said an official.
